Term 3, Week 10, 25th September 2025

Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers, and Members of our School Community,

What a fantastic and busy Term 3 it has been! As it is the final week before a well-deserved break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements and events of the past ten weeks.

This term was filled with so many fantastic moments for our children. We saw our Pre-Schoolers mentoring at Koolbeanz, a wonderful initiative that fosters leadership and kindness. Our Stage 2 and 3 students had a memorable camp experience, creating friendships and building confidence. We also had the valuable 3-way conferences, which provided an excellent opportunity for teachers, parents, and students to work together on learning goals.

Thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our wonderful Father’s Day Morning Tea. It was so lovely to see our students celebrating the special people in their lives. The vibrant Book Week and Fair was also a huge success, sparking a love for reading and creativity in all our students. We celebrated a meaningful NAIDOC Week, and it was wonderful to see our students engaging with and learning about Australian First Nations culture.

A special mention goes to our students who achieved great success with the STEM Mad team, showcasing their innovative thinking. Our school leaders had a fantastic visit to the Jubilee boat of hope, and we were delighted to welcome visiting friends from St Joseph’s Coraki to view our new Numeracy Approach, 'Number Fluency.' We also celebrated a huge milestone for our Kinders—100 days of school!

It's been an amazing term of events, but the true magic happens every day in the classrooms. It's the passion and commitment of our dedicated teachers, and the wonderful support from you, our parents, that create the great and engaging learning experiences our students thrive on. Your efforts truly make a difference, and I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful and supportive community.

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 4!

Dave

Junior Johnnies Program

We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to any child starting Kindy in 2026 to participate in our "Junior Johnnies" Kindergarten Orientation Program for the 2026 school year.

At St. John's Primary School, we believe that a smooth and happy start to school is essential for every child. Our orientation program is designed to help your child become familiar with the school environment, teachers, and classmates, while also providing you with valuable information about our school community and the Kindergarten curriculum.

The program will include a series of interactive sessions where your child will engage in fun activities, classroom exploration, and meet our dedicated teaching staff. For parents, we will host an information session covering key aspects of school life, including our educational philosophy, daily routines, and how you can support your child's learning journey.

Program Details

Dates: Friday October 17th, Friday October 24th, Friday October 31st & Friday November 7th
Time: 9 am-11 am
Location: St John's School

* A parent session will take place on Friday, 7th November, running concurrently with the children's program, and will be held in the St. John's School Hall.

LEARNING @ ST JOHN'S

Stage 3 Budding Journalists

Stage 3 students have been stepping into the role of journalists, learning how to write and report on real news items. As part of their learning, they have been developing skills to critically read media, including how to spot the difference between real and fake news.

To put their skills into practice, the students became reporters, writing newspaper articles about the recent Stage 2 and 3 camp to Brisbane. They worked hard to capture the highlights of camp, sharing details in an engaging and informative way.

The learning won’t stop there. Students will also be using a green screen to transform into news presenters, recording their articles as if they were live from the newsroom. This exciting project has given students a taste of real-world journalism while also encouraging creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Thank you to Mr Bermingham and Staff.

This week, we celebrated Principal's Day and want to extend a huge thank you to Mr Bermingham. We are so grateful for his commitment to our school community. Mr Bermingham always has our students' best interests at heart and makes a genuine effort to get to know every one of them personally. Whether he's stepping away from his busy schedule to join us on camps, at Gala Days, and on excursions, or giving up his break time to skillfully referee Oz Tag, he consistently goes above and beyond. We appreciate his approachability and the time he invests in the well-being of our staff, students, and families.

To make the celebration extra special, we held a fantastic staff shared lunch and brought back the much-loved ‘dress-up as your principal day’. It was a huge success! The playground was filled with so many "mini Mr. Berminghams," and it was great to see everyone, from staff to students, creatively capturing the unique characteristics of our very own ‘Principal Dave.’  It truly showed how much he is a part of our school's everyday life and how much he is appreciated. Thank you, Mr Bermingham, for everything you do!

Finally, I wish to acknowledge the incredible dedication of our teachers this term to providing quality teaching and learning. They have provided rich, diverse learning experiences throughout the term, and their efforts have enriched our curriculum immensely. We appreciate their commitment to adjusting learning to suit individual students, making time to meet with parents, and investing so much of themselves to build strong relationships with each student. Thank you, teachers, for your tireless work and for everything you pour into our school community.

Mr Bermingham!
